Jose Mourinho has opened up about an offer he received from Saudi side Al-Hilal this summer but has admitted he turned down their offer.
The 60-year-old AS Roma manager has been strongly linked with a move away from The Stadio Olimpico of late.
Mourinho was offered a two-year-deal worth €120 million, according to Coriello Dello Sport, which would have made him the highest-paid manager in football history.
Al-Ahli and Al-Hilal reportedly made huge offers for the former Manchester United, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Tottenham Hotspur coach.
“In the summer I had the biggest, most important and craziest job offer that a coach has ever had in the history of football,” he said in his press conference via La Gazzetta dello Sport.
“I refused it precisely because of my word. Now it seems like I’m a problem, I don’t accept it. I don’t accept it because it’s not true, I’m not a problem.”
Would Mourinho move in the future
The Portuguese coach has been linked with a move to the Middle East for a while now and you would expect that Mourinho may well be the next big managerial target for the Saudi Pro League.
Matthias Jaissle and Jorge Jesus, who are currently managers of Al-Ahli and Al-Hilal, may well be fearing for their jobs if the Portuguese is willing to speak so openly about the potential of moving to the Middle East.
For now, though, Mourinho has committed his future to the Italian side for the next season, he said: “In football and in life things are multifactorial, you can’t say that one person is responsible, we are all.
“I have compromised myself by giving my word, so until June 30, 2024 I will be here, I will be here until the last day.”
