Al-Hilal have discussed the possibility of bringing Anthony Martial to the Saudi Pro League this summer as the French forward is seemingly surplus to requirements.
The current Manchester United forward has struggled since the beginning of the Erik ten Hag era with injuries being the main precursor to what has been a disappointing time recently in Manchester.
Al-Hilal have just recently brought in Aleksandar Mitrovic from Fulham for a fee in the region of £46 million so the Saudi side signing another striker seems unlikely.
The report from The Mirror states that Al-Hilal would have been ready to pursue a deal for the Frenchman if the deal for Mitrovic were to fall through but now that it has been confirmed, Martial signing for the Saudi side seems increasingly unlikely.
Would other sides be interested in Martial?
The report goes on to say that other Saudi sides would be prepared to offer Martial an escape route from United, although who the other Saudi sides are remains to be seen.
Al-Ittihad could sign Martial as a Benzema backup, and Al-Ahli could well sign Martial, too, despite signing Roberto Firmino on a free transfer this summer.
What is clear though, the big Saudi sides aren’t desperate for more striker signings.
If Martial made the move to one of the big four sides in the Saudi division, it is likely that he would be back up – whether he would be interested in that, remains to be seen.
Martial will struggle for game time this season with United signing Rasmus Hojlund, the game time for the French forward will be limited.
The Saudi side would be able to offer a similar if not better wage package than the one he is currently receiving at United, which is around £250,000 a week according to Sky Sports.
