Antoine Griezmann could well have made a move to Al-Hilal if all had gone to plan two weeks ago according to reports.
The French forward had been linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League with Al-Ittihad reportedly interested in the former Real Sociedad forward.
However, speaking on SSC Sport, a Saudi website, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Al-Hilal were very concrete in their interest in the Frenchman.
A few years back it seemed likely that Griezmann would end up in the Premier League with Manchester United but Altetoc Madrid’s transfer ban in 2017 was upheld, so the Frenchman stayed at the Spanish club.
After he moved to Barcelona, the forward struggled at the Nou Camp but the forward then moved back to Diego Simeone’s side.
Al-Hilal have already made a number of additions, Neymar from Paris Saint Germain represents the biggest signing of the summer in the Saudi Pro League.
What has been said
According to Romano, barely two weeks ago it seemed likely that Griezmann could have made the move to the Saudi side, who are managed by former Benfica boss Jorge Jesus, but that deal now seems unlikely as things stand.
Romano has also stated, however, that a move to the Pro League could well be an option for the forward in the future but for now, that seems unlikely.
Griezmann was superb last season for the Spanish side where he scored 15 goals and provided 16 assists for Simeone’s side.
The Saudi side would be unlikely to sign the French forward this summer following their arrival of Neymar.
Al-Hilal tried and failed in a move to sign Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint Germain and Victor Osimhen from Napoli and have failed in their attempts to sign the pair.
